What is Lip Reduction?

While lip reduction is less commonly discussed than lip augmentation procedures, it is a treatment that has been gaining popularity in recent years. If you are unhappy with the size of your lips and feel they are excessively large, or your lip is more prominent than you would like, lip reduction surgery may be the ideal procedure. Whether you have naturally large lips, or asymmetrical lips or are dissatisfied with previous lip augmentation, lip reduction surgery can help you achieve the ideal balance.

Resolving Overly Large Lips with Surgery: That Face in Chicago

During your initial consultation, Dr. Sulyman-Scott will discuss the procedure with you and ensure it is the best option for you. She will ask you about your medical history and inquire about your goals for the procedure.

If lip reduction surgery is appropriate in your case, she will help you prepare for your procedure and give you all the information you need. Lip reduction surgery is an outpatient procedure that usually takes less than an hour and is performed with local anesthesia.

Dr. Sulyman-Scott will make a horizontal incision on the inside of your lip and then remove excess fat and tissue from your lip or lips. Once the desired volume has been achieved, she will suture the incision with stitches that will dissolve after a few days.

Downtime is Minimal and Results are Long Lasting

Little downtime is needed in most cases, and it is likely that you will feel well enough to return to work or other activities within a day or two. Within the first few days after surgery, it is normal to experience some bruising, mild pain, and swelling of the lip. As lips are one of the most sensitive parts of your body with many nerve endings, you can expect to feel some discomfort that can be managed with pain medication.

Dr. Sulyman-Scott will help you with post-surgery care and advise you on how to heal quickly. Once the swelling has subsided, your results will visible. Your lip reduction is long-term, and no further surgery should be required.
